On Tuesday, June 27th, 2023, partners of the LIFE BEAVER project presented the protection of trees against beavers to the management plant of the Kostel Municipality. We used a grid with a thickness of 2 mm and a window diameter of 5 cm (it can also be smaller). It is important that the net does not cling tightly to the trunk – there must be 10-20 cm of space between the net and the trunk (so that the tree can grow and the beaver cannot reach the tree). The net must also cover the roots. It should be at least 1 m high, and in case of expected high (long-term) snow cover, even more; for the beaver eats trees only in winter, when there is no greenery and therefore feeds on the bark.

Another option for tree protection is paint that is commonly used against game.
