As part of the LIFE BEAVER project, we are cooperating with several researchers and experts across Europe to improve existing schemes and adopt new beaver management approaches. Exchange of experiences and transfer of good practice management skills are being evaluated coming from areas where people are used to coexist with beavers longer. Communication will serve to set up professional beaver management guidelines, where an extensive review of the existing compensation scheme is necessary. We need to ask ourselves whether natural feeding behaviour of an autochthonous species such as beaver is really causing extensive economic damage? How can we satisfy both parties involved, beavers and men? What measures do we need to undertake to achieve the best of both worlds, for the beaver to feed and at the same time to protect the trees? Experiences were shared and these issues addressed with the beaver specialists coming from Scotland, England and Germany in an online meeting.
