Representatives of Lutra Institute, Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation – Regional Unit Novo Mesto, Slovenian Water Agency and VGP Novo mesto, d.d. met on-site along Žerjavski stream to find suitable solutions for minimising unwanted beaver impacts of the surrounding farmland. A simple pilot technique will be tested out: a pipe will be inserted through a beaver dam to decrease the water level above it and with it prevent the flooding of neighbouring fields. The beaver will be left with its masterpiece construction and a natural stream flowing through it intact. We hope it will work!
