On Friday, March 22nd, 2024, at the Multigenerational Center Benedikt in Slovenske Gorice, we introduced the beaver to the locals as a key species of aquatic environments.

We explained how the beaver can help us mitigate droughts and floods and what ecosystem services it provides.

We also dispelled some myths about the beaver (such as that it is a non-native species or that it does a lot of damage). We compared beaver interventions in watercourses with human interventions and found that we do much more damage to riparian vegetation and watercourses than beavers.

The lecture was organized by the group for the revitalization of the Pesnica River, Live River Pesnica, and the Young Nature Explorers of Slovenske Gorice-Benedikt.
