At the end of April, we installed the so-called beaver-deceiver to prevent flooding of the surrounding forest and agricultural areas.
We obtained a permit from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning to intervene into a protected beaver structure (dam). The purpose of the intervention is not to remove the dam or disturb the beaver, but to lower the water level behind the dam to the extent that flooding of surrounding areas is reduced or prevented. The pipe is selected and installed in such a way that the water behind the dam is still deep enough for the habitat to remain suitable for the beaver (at least 80 cm deep).
Our goal is to ensure the best possible coexistence between beavers and people with similar interventions and good practices.
