On April 11th, 2024, the Mura Festival took place in Prekmurje, within the framework of which the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation organized a school excursion about the local nature.

The event took place in the village of Kot (near Lendava), in the area of the Mura side channel. The participants were students of higher grades (6th-9th grade) of Bakovci Elementary School. They were divided into 5 groups, the first learned about birds, the second about amphibians, the third about aquatic invertebrates, the fourth about the Mura river and plants, and the fifth about aquatic mammals.

We were in charge of the fifth group and presented the beaver, otter, coypu and muskrat, and after the presentation we went out into the field to look for their tracks. In particular, we found many traces of beavers (fallen or gnawed trees, footpaths). We found paw prints and marker places. With the help of the beaver toolbox, we then showed the children everything that they had not seen in the field.
